Cricklade Leisure Centre and other assets formally transferred to Cricklade Town Council

The formal transfer of Cricklade Leisure Centre and other assets from Wiltshire Council to Cricklade Town Council has been completed.

The asset transfer has seen Stones Lane transfer to Cricklade Town Council, which includes the Leisure Centre (along with funds to support ongoing maintenance) and Recreation Ground,  Waylands Car Park and Ockwells.

Refurbishment work on Cricklade Leisure Centre concluded earlier this year and this saw the facility uplifted and modernised. The newly refurbished centre reopened it's doors to the public yesterday.

Sam Fox, Corporate Director for Place, said: We are pleased that this asset transfer has been completed. The transfer makes really good sense for both authorities and will see a number of services and facilities locally run and thrive as result, which will ultimately benefit the Cricklade communities and the local area.

We thank the town council for their partnership on this project which saw us working effectively together to reach this positive outcome.

Duncan May, Cricklade Town Clerk, stated: Cricklade Town Council are very pleased with our rejuvenated Leisure Centre and this fulfils our plans to make sure everyone within the Town has access to excellent quality leisure facilities now and for many years to come. The Leisure Centre will continue to be run by C&DCA on a not-for-profit basis. The project has been a complex and lengthy one and we have been pleased to work alongside Wiltshire Council to deliver a good outcome.

The two other components of the asset transfer package are important local facilities. The Ockwells building accommodates the GP surgery and the Library as well as the Town Council. The car park land comprises the major part of the Town Hall car park. We are delighted to now have these assets under local ownership and control although, of course, they do come with responsibilities.
