House to house and street collections

A house-to-house collection is a charitable collection made by means of visits from house to house to give money or other property. This is also applicable to collections taking place in public houses and places of business. The collector moves on after each collection. Wiltshire Council are not currently processing House to House Collection requests until the current Covid-19 lockdown restrictions are lifted.

It is both an offence to promote and make a house-to-house collection for charitable purposes without the promoter first obtaining a licence from the Licensing Authority.

Anyone wishing to make a collection on behalf of a charitable cause in a street or public place requires a permit from the Local Authority. Wiltshire Council are not currently processing Street Collection requests until the current Covid-19 lockdown restrictions are lifted.

The permit is free of charge and is a legal requirement to ensure collectors are properly authorised and that all donations are collected in a secure way and are properly accounted for.

On receipt of your completed application form the Council will check that the charity is registered and also that your chosen collection date is available. If the date is not available, the Council will contact you by phone or email to agree an alternative date.

If your application is successful, your permit will be sent to you by email.Due to high demand, all applications must be submitted no later than one month prior to the proposed collection date.

A headed letter from the charity confirming you are collecting on their behalf will also need to be sent in with your application.

Market Place & Guildhall Square in Salisbury are not available for street collections and should not be included as locations in your application.
