Information Governance

The Information Commissioner enforces and oversees:

  • Data Protection legislation

  • The Freedom of Information Act 2000

  • The Environmental Information Regulations 2004

  • The Privacy of Electronic Communications Regulation 2003

The Commissioner is a UK independent supervisory authority, which reports directly to the UK Parliament and has both an international and national role. It is not part of central or local government and is the regulatory authority for all processing of personal data.
