Valuations and valuation appeals

All non-domestic properties have a rateable value, other than those deemed exempt, for business rates. The value is normally set by the Valuation Office Agency (VOA), of the Inland Revenue. The VOA draws-up, and maintains, a full list of all the rateable values, these are available on the Valuation Office Agency website (opens new window).

'Check and Challenge' appeal

If you have reason to believe your rateable value is incorrect, you can check, challenge, and appeal it, follow the instructions provided on the link below: 

• check your business rates valuation, following the instructions on: review and confirm the facts about your property held by the VOA (opens new window) 
• challenge it - if you feel the value is incorrect, once the facts are established, you must explain why you believe your valuation is wrong

You must complete a check and challenge before an appeal on your rateable value is possible.
